TLDR: The messy boardroom coup at OpenAI reveals perilous non profit governance gaps in oversight of increasingly powerful AI models. My experience developing new financial risk structures showed transparency, independence, empowerment and liability alignment are key to governance. OpenAI’s hybrid model sought this but failed to fully deliver.
An independent transnational corporation working with likes of Interpol should be established. FBAI, InterpolAI ? based in geopolitically stable country like Switzerland?
As AI capabilities rapidly advance from all companies (& users of & via suppliers using their APIs), thorough external audits, mandatory licensing, categorical prohibitions on unethical uses, participatory oversight bodies and human-rights centered principles can maximize benefits and minimize harm, securing shared prosperity.
