Happy Chinese New Year of 🐷 🐖 🐽 pig! Wish you a peaceful, successful, prosperous and challenging (for good) year!

祝你们己亥猪年新年快乐,金猪拱福!

This Chinese new year, I’ve self-challenged to be more ‘creative’. Given my children’s talent in art (I’m only allowed to share one oil painting publicly, however, but no doubt part of their talent was due to my genes!? I would like to see what I can achieve by end of the year.) I hope you like the amateurish picture below (wish I had been a good teenager, listened to elders & practiced more 書法 Chinese calligraphy when I was in Hong Kong now!):

My only wish for our future generations is to empower them (should they desire) simple and laser focus skills to #DoTheRightThing, this is only achievable however if they chose to care enough, dare to ask the right question & act on the right decision.

There is a big difference of being happy & be ordinary, and just survive, as being able to benchmark oneself vs what he/she could achieve by maximising his or her potential, by self-challenging to be better in thoughts or action, our world could surely be a better place?

My proposed solution is simple, everyone can become a “Good Watcher”; just imagine instead of time wasting/government changing/ privacy data leaking social media (allegedly Facebook), people can download a GoodWatchers app (vapour ware at present, would you like to help to make this a reality?)

We might also have AR/VR integrated, that encourage people to engage with each other/the environments, 2019/2020 version of Pokémon GO that empowers & challenge people?

Through the app, people are empowered, encouraged to engage with themselves (to learn, observe other’s good/great deeds/insights in different fields) and challenge each other to act “good deeds”? Good deeds however need to be redefined in the chinese way, like during Chinese new year, make time for family, to have more 孝心 (filial piety), as it is very much the heart of the Chinese civilisation for thousands of years. For our western friends however, no doubt being happy, healthy, ‘work-life balanced’, ‘ripped’, able to run a marathon or winning “great british bake off”/Masterchef/BigBrother etc.

I would however hope people can learn about the worlds’ fundamental challenges like Air, Food & Rubbish (how it might affect us, and what we can do about it); could it become the new ‘norm’ like running marathon or riding bikes in colourful Lycra? could we see the new version(s) of cool British Mod/Rockers that strut about pondering and doing the right thing?

Of course, being good is hard work, and often tedious and unrewarding, but if through fun interactions (learn, challenge, gamification, bio-hacking, techno-hacking) by using behavioural science, social media (let’s forget the egotistic celebrities but do include creatives like film makers & musicians). With support and considered decision and actions to adopt best researched & devised solutions, people can support and challenge each other to become their better self?

To #SuperChargeSelf (given the right goal) is easy and indeed free mostly these days (must choose the right teacher though, see my CNY post in 2015 how I chose Chen TaiChi over Krav Maga), there is much choice from EdX, Coursera, Futurelearn or indeed join the local teacher/universities. In 2019 onward however, it is important to remember that getting a certificate/qualification does not mean there is a role/job or even an active alumni network after, one also need to be savvy and learn skills and creativity that AI cannot easily replace, must read/listen to Martin Ford (author of rise of robots).

To help people focusing on the right thing(s), therefore, via #GoodWatchers, maybe we can empower our future generations to engage by not just “protest for protest’s sake” but also engage and devise grass root (sustainable & viable) solutions to key personal or world issues/challenges. We do not want violence (Gilet Jaune) nor Raising awareness without solutions ( Occupy), some may argue that 2019 is time to adopt a new approach to personal life that can evolve into bigger solutions. It is time to #FixTheWorld rather than present dogma of #ChangeTheWorld that not yet fixed anything!

Therefore, I propose through GoodWatchers App, people could Nudge, Challenge & Compete with each other to be more meaningful and impactful.

What do you think?

Meanwhile, let’s have a great, happy, successful year of the golden pig!

Warmest regards
